The 2017 season will begin on June 16th, as the series will co-headline events at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Both series will make the 80 mile trip south to race together again at the Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo the following night.
The Northern Late Model Racing Association's 20th season of action will feature 17 big events during this anniversary season. In 1998, the Grand Forks, ND based racing series debuted with four races on its' initial slate of races, setting a foundation that the series continues to build off of today.

Don Shaw parked the No. 42S Shaw Trucking Victory by Moyer in victory lane both nights at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The wins are Shaw's fifth and sixth career NLRA series wins, and seventh and eighth wins at Viking this season, as he also wrapped up the track points title after doing the same at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN last Friday night. Rick Schroeder and Labor Day ace Zach Johnson lined up on the front row on night one, but it was Shaw who quickly took the point down the backstretch.
Don Shaw started second, and lead just three laps en route to winning his third NLRA feature of the season at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on Sunday night. The win is Shaw's sixth NLRA series triumph, and third win of the last four NLRA Labor Day races at Viking. Dustin Strand was denied of his seventh NLRA win of the season when Shaw, who lead lap one, took the lead on lap 24, and went on to victory. Brad Seng, Zach Johnson, and Corey Nelson rounded out the top five. Cole Schill picked up another hard charger award, improving to seventh after starting 16th. Brad Seng will carry an 18 point lead over defending series champion Dustin Strand into the final week of the season.

Don Shaw started third, and lead all 25 laps en route to his second NLRA series win of the season Saturday night at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The win is Shaw's fifth career win with the series, seventh at Viking this year, and the second straight win of the NLRA Labor Day double opener at the Speedway. Shaw is also on his way to scoring the track title at Viking with one race remaining. Zach Johnson, Brad Seng, Corey Nelson, and Dustin Strand rounded out the top five. Cole SChill racked up another hard charger award, improving nine spots to finish eleventh. Brad Seng gained six points on Dustin Strand in the NLRA points chase with three races left. Racing continues Sunday night at Viking at six.

For the ninth time in series history, the NLRA will spend its' Labor Day weekend at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The regulars of the NLRA series will take on the 51-year-old half-mile oval on the Douglas County Fairgrounds for the 38th time in series history.
Last season, for the first time ever, Viking aces Jeff Wildung and Zach Johnson were held out of the win column. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, and Don Shaw in the Shaw Trucking No. 42S, became just the third and fourth drivers not named Wildung or Johnson to win on Labor Day weekend in Alexandria.
After running the seasons first seven races in a span of 14 days, the NLRA schedule is on a bit of a hiatus, but that doesn't mean its' series regulars have taken any time off.
Last Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, won the feature in his first appearance at the speedway in 2016. Current speedway point leader Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, finished second to Strand, while Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory finished fourth, and sits four points back of Balcaen for the point lead.
Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Winnipeg Hearing Centres MasterSbilt, won his first race of the season last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The win was his sixth in late model action at the speedway, as he fended off charges from two-time and defending NLRA series champion, and defending River Cities champion Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn. Mooney became the fourth different winner in four nights in what is arguably the most competitive class at the three-tenths mile oval on the Grand Forks county Fairgrounds, that will host five NLRA series races this season. The first NLRA race at River Cities is two weeks from this Friday night when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series hits town for the first of two scheduled visits.
Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, won his first race of the year at River Cities Speedway last Friday night. Mike Balcaen, winner at the Speedway two weeks prior crossed the line second in the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, with Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory rounding out the podium in third. Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71 Todd's Electric Bloomquist finished fourth in his season debut, while two-time track champion Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom rounded out the top five.
Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, won his first feature at River Cities since 2014 last Friday night, rebounding from a DNF at the opener the week prior. Balcaen went on to finish second to Don Shaw at the season opener at the Viking Speedway last Saturday night.
Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory, finished second at River Cities, with Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Winnipeg Hearing Centres MasterSbilt rounding out the podium. Winners of seven of the last eight River Cities season points titles, Joey Pederson, driver of the Dahlstrom Motors No. 7P, and Brad Seng, driver of the S&S Transport No. 12S, guided their pair of MB Customs to top five finishes.
The NLRA has released its' 2016 series schedule. The series 19th season features 19 rounds, starting on Saturday night, June the 11th at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND. The schedule also includes the return to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND on Friday night, June the 24th, and a second appearance in West Fargo on Sunday night, July the 17th alongside the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association. This is the first time the Upper Midwest's two premier racing series have met on the same night, and at the same track (away from River Cities) since June 10th, 2007, when Jeremy Keller and Jason Linnell were winners at the Nodak Speedway, in Minot, ND. It's also the fourth time in the history of the two series that they'll share the same dirt, the other two occurrences happened at the Norman County Raceway in 1998, and again in 2001.
